Headingley
Headingley is a suburb of north-west Leeds known for its cricket and rugby grounds, its large student population and its Victorian terraces. To much of the world, "Headingley" means the cricket ground where England plays Test matches; in Leeds it also means a neighbourhood.
In practice
The stadium complex is home to Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the Leeds Rhinos rugby league team, and its cricket ground has hosted famous Test matches. Around it, the suburb is a mix of student houses, family homes, cafés, pubs and shops along Otley Road, close to the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University. Headingley is also the start of the Otley Run.
Why it matters to newcomers
Headingley is popular with young professionals and academics as well as students, with good buses to the centre and a lively high street. Rents and noise follow the academic year, so check how many student houses share your street. On match days, roads around the stadium are busy.
